January was Cold….will February begin the warm-up??
After a very cold December, January 2011 ended up colder than normal as well. January was not marked as much by extreme bitter cold as it was by persistent cold – particularly the first 24 days of the month. We ended up with 986 degree days – a colder than normal January and very much in line with our past two January’s. If you recall, last February was the coldest we had experienced in at least 20 years. I don’t think we’ll be nearly as cold this February as we were last year. I’m betting on a slightly colder than normal first half of the month – then a warming trend the last 10 days or so with the month ending up being slightly warmer than usual.
Please read this article and watch the embedded video from accuweather.com, we could be headed to some very cold winters over the next several years.

I’ve been asked recently “What will happen with Heating Oil Prices the rest of the winter”.
The reality is that with the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic being so cold for so long – the demand for Heating Oil is way up. There is definite strong upward pressure on pricing and I do not think there is much chance that the price of Heating Oil will drop over the next six weeks . I also think the price differential between Heating Oil and Kerosene will continue to grow. Few and fewer suppliers are offering Kerosene and as the amount of competition decreases – the cost almost always rises. As always, we are working hard to buy product at the best possible price and work as efficiently as we can as an organization to keep our prices as low as we can. We appreciate all our customers and please know that we are aware of how difficult these high prices are.

I've been asked, "What is a Degree Day?". Degree Days are what we use to help gauge how cold the weather is and how much Oil our customers will use. A Heating Degree Day compares the average temperate of the day to 65 degrees. For example if the High Temperature for the day is 45 and the Low Temperature of the Day is 25. The Average Temperature of the day is 35 degrees. We then subtract the average temperature from 65 to come up with the calucation of 30 Degree Days for that day.
We continue to work with all area Fuel Assistance and Crisis Programs to help as many of our customers as possible and we are doing everything we can to keep our costs down so that we can sell Heating Oil as inexpensively as possible.I would like to thank all of our customers for your loyal busines over the years and we will continue to work hard to retain your trust.
