Hudson River Maritime Museum & Rondout Lighthouse: 845-338-0071
Open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day. Indoor and outdoor exhibits. Boat tours to Rondout Lighthouse (only access to lighthouse is via tour boat) weekends from noon to 4 p.m.

Trolley Museum of NY: 331-33099
Trolley rides on the Rondout Waterfront.

Stockade District (Uptown Kingston, a National Historic District): Originally laid out by Peter Stuyvesant in 1658. Guided walking tours by appointment (331-7517), Old Dutch Church (338-6759), Senate House & Museum (338-2786).

Farther afield

Hyde Park: Site of Franklin D. Roosevelt Home and Library (229-8114), Eleanor Roosevelt National Historic Site (229-9115) and Vanderbilt Mansion National Historic Site (229-9115). All open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. About 1/2 hour by taxi on East side of Hudson. Culinary Institute of America, also in Hyde Park.Training ground of master chefs worldwide. Many restaurants open to public daily for lunch and dinner. Reservations are required (471-6508).

Rhinebeck, Old Rhinebeck Aerpdrome Meseum: 758-8610. Early 1900s aircraft, sightseeing flights, air shows.

Woodstock: About 15 miles northwest, lots of interesting shops, restaurants, Artist's colony, Klienert Arts Center, Maverick Concert Hall, River Arts Repertory at Byrdcliffe, Woodstock Artists' Association, and much more.
